Make the most of Halloween: 4 tips for small businesses

Halloween is becoming an increasingly profitable time of year, especially for retail and hospitality businesses, and can give your business a kick start for Christmas.  However if you feel like you could have done more to get the Halloween trade through the door, do not fear – we have cooked up four last-minute tricks to give your customers (and you) a treat!

  1. Look spooky – make sure your website and social media accounts have a nod to Halloween. If you have a shop, it could be as simple as putting a pumpkin in the doorway.
  2. Offer a deal or discount – It’s not too late. If you use social media or email marketing to get in front of your customers, they will no doubt have been targeted by other companies with Halloween offers, so now is a good time to offer them something extra – perhaps 10% off a particular item or an old fashioned BOGOF offer?
  3. Run competitions on social media– it’s free and can be a quick way to get in front of new customers! You can offer a prize for the best -carved pumpkin, the best costume or even the best-dressed pet – cats and dogs in costumes always get a good reception online! Get your customers to post their picture online, with your business name tagged in the post. If your name is tagged next to a pug in a pumpkin costume, you are bound to get some effortless exposure!
  4. Work with what you have – don’t rush out and buy mountains of extra stock. If you’re a café, make pumpkin soup deals, if you have a bar, how about a happy hour on Bloody Mary or zombie cocktails, If you are a beautician, offer discounts on group ‘spooky makeovers’ or cobweb nail art.

Whether it’s a hashtag, a tweak to your website or a window display, it is well worth putting your business out there for Halloween to make sure you get a slice of the (pumpkin) pie!
